That’s right I’m a Right-Brained Extrovert and PROUD OF IT! I’ve always known who I was and I am starting to understand more and more about my “personality”, but now how do I use that information for the good? How do I go from being ‘that’ person to becoming the person I want to be?
Well, step one: I join Parelli. Who would have known a horsemanship program would be the place to offer me the information I needed to improve myself? And in such a positive way? And all this combined to help me with my horsemanship?
Yes, to be a good horseman you need to understand what it is you are communicating with the horse. Horses don’t speak English, they read body language, understand energy, feel and the intentions of other horses and of nature around them.
So what am I communicating to the horse? And what is it that my horse wants me to know? Well, she’s telling me I am a right-brained extrovert.
Parelli (as well as other personality tests) categorize people into one of four categories. Right-brain introverts, right-brained extroverts, left-brained introverts, or left brained extroverts. This fits well with how they categorize horse-analities -they use the same four categories to understand horse characteristics as well (more on that later). No two humans (or horses) are the same and its our individual interests and behaviors that make us all unique individuals.
So what category do you fit into and how do your characteristics communicate with your horse? I am definitely a moderately right-brained extrovert, as I’ve said, and that means I have a lot of work to do!
Being right-brained means I have emotional tendencies. I react to situations by how I feel. And by being an extrovert it means I announce these feelings to the world loud and clear. Sometimes I can be introverted as well, making things a little more unclear to understand. I find I am introverted in situations in which I am more uncomfortable or unconfident in, where I show my extrovert characteristics when I feel confident and more comfortable to show my feelings willingly and happily.
Within each personality there are different stages or “spirit levels” measuring the extreme, moderate or mild characteristics of your personality. The goal is to become as mild as possible in your innate characteristics, and to understand and accept each of the four personality types and find easier communication between them.
In knowing and understanding your unique personality you can continue in never ending self improvement, and therefore increase your communication techniques with all four personality types, and all four horsenalities.
