No I don’t have kids, but I have always said, “If I can effectively teach a horse (or dog) I believe I will be ready to raise a child.” And its been my mission ever since.
Well, once I found Parelli Natural Horsemanship its confirmed everything I believed. Within their program they work so hard at self- improvement and developing the human into being a very effective human being in every aspect. Every dark truth about you comes out while learning to play with your equine friends.
You don’t have enough patience? Well, your horse will let you know that. You aren’t an effective leader? Your horse will tell you that too. You need to be more trusting? Yup, the horse knows this. You need to work on your energy control? Or your own confidence? Or ask for more respect? Or your emotional fitness?
By playing with your horses you will learn all about where your weak points are and what your strong personality traits are! You will become a lot more alert and sensitive to listening and observing, and you will develop responsibility, leadership, respect and confidence. All very desirable traits for being a parent.
The Parelli program is about developing yourself to become the better leader, for your horse and for your relationships. It’s about putting the relationship first, it’s about listening and responding. It’s about respect and confidence. It’s about setting yourself up to succeed. It’s about positive communication. Is about never-ending self improvement and becoming the best you can be, becoming centered and less extreme.
I could go on and on all day, but honestly I think a lot more parents could use a little of this advice… not saying that they have to join Parelli, I’m saying that there are positive lessons to be learned here! And I, for one, will look forward to how it affects my parenting. 🙂
