The more anxious we are, the more we are not trusting the situation…
now sometimes there’s good reason to get our knickers in a knot-
just ask Sundoll here she likes to be the one to get riled up in the herd.
She’s a very sensitive horse with sensitive radar.
But other times it’s just a lack of confidence. And a lack of trust in the situation.
You feel your only recourse is to panic.
It’s a flight, fight or freeze response. Depending what you choose in the moment.
Sometimes there is no need to panic.
And sometimes there is need for fight or flight.
But if you watch a herd of horses, unless the whole herd is spooked, and even then it might not be a huge threat- they just assess the situation until they are satisfied it is ok to go back to grazing or they figure they need to run for their lives.
They also look to their herd mates to see their reaction. Is everyone worried? Do I just need to move closer to them n farther from the threat? Do I need to alert them of the threat they are unable to see from their place in the pasture?
So how do we assess the threats around us?
As humans we sometimes make mountains outta mole hills.
And as very sensitive humans we tend to not only feel what is within us but what’s also in our environment and beyond that as well.
How do we settle into that place of trust inside of us?
We look at our beliefs. We look at our environment. We look at our past experiences and how they affected us. We follow these emotions of anxiety right to the bottom of things.
Instead of running we turn- face the situation we are running from and reassess.
That’s what horses do.
If a rabbit goes hopping through the pasture It might startle the horses. They might flee 100ft then turn n face the object to reassess if it’s a threat still or not.
But there’s always room for reassessment.
They notice their anxiety.
They act accordingly- then they reassess.
Because their main goal is to get back to their peace within. Back to trust in their environment. Back to grazing, back to their ‘herd’.
Our bodies know how to shift out of anxiety mode just as soon as we allow them too.
As soon as we reassess the situation as safe and go back to trusting…. go back to grazing (as the horse would do)
So what is in your environment that seems unsafe to you?
How can you adjust this?
What situations are you not putting your trust in? What has got you so worried? Where can you reassess your situation and change your beliefs to places I’d trust?
This is a process. A moment to moment process so be gentle with yourself but continue to evaluate your life and your experiences until you can confidently say you trust the environment around you. ?
