One of the things I’m going to be very conscious of as a parent is being present.
More than just doing, I’m going to be.
I’m going to try my very best to see this little soul as more than just a responsibility to care for, but a being with a huge spirit that needs nurturing.
I’ll admit that sometimes this will be easier than others, and admittedly I’m human and I may not always get it right.
But even if sometimes there is a deeper connection and presence than others it will be a great start.
I’m making this my practice.
Growing up I always felt I was cared for. I never felt my safety was in jeopardy. I always knew there would be food on the table, clothes on my back and a roof over my head.
But I didn’t always feel seen.
I didn’t feel loved for who I was, I felt made to fit in, be good, do as I say!
“Don’t do what you want, do what we want!”
My choices were not honoured and my space was not respected.
But as I work on finding this piece of respect and trust within myself I’m encouraged to pass it on.
This tiny human only days old is still someone who deserves respect and honour.
So this is my promise to him and myself.
I’m going to do the best I can to stay present with him and show him that love and respect. ?
