Awesome things are happening in September… So far harvest is not much of one of them. The leaves are turning, the animals are getting their winter coat, the days are getting shorter, and the weather is getting colder. I think that means fall is approaching fast. I sure hope winter doesn’t set in to fast and we get to enjoy more outside weather into the fall.

September has taught me that sometimes we have to sit back to see that something that might look negative, actually is something positive in disguise. I have two lame horses, but if I didn’t I would have never learnt about horse chiropractors, and all the lessons that came with dealing with a horse in pain. And dealing with a horse in pain brings the relationship that much closer as they understand you are just there to help them and bring them comfort.

I’ve been doing a lot with my horses. Learning, shopping, dealing with and helping them. I like the shopping part! After two years and a three day road trip I have found a saddle that I like. And I’m just all about spoiling them now. Not only do they realize that we are trying to help them, I realize that the frustration I’ve been dealing with as they aren’t performing right, isn’t from a cranky attitude but from them hurting, or not understanding.

Here are some pictures from September…

September 1, 2010

Get along little doggy… Look at Tribar’s ears…. the picture looks like he’s mad at the cows and pushing them forward like a god little cow horse, but honestly he’s probably just listening to me mumble to myself.

Cat napping… must have been a long day, huge yawn and stretch as he laid down to get comfy in the grass and leaves. To bad I interrupted his snooze. Hehehe

The turning of the leaves… Fall always makes for a pretty time of the year. Summer still in the air but you can feel winter peaking in on ya.

Get r’ done… that’s a big pail of staples, but with a little work 2/3 of the fence is done…. now just to finish it….

September 5, 2010

RAWR…this picture almost makes the quad look big… did a little rainy day touring around the neighbourhood and down back trails.

September 6, 2010

More yellow… everything is feeling the touch of winter creeping in. It makes me so sad.

September 7, 2010

More mud bogging… It’s raining down the river here. We took the quad down to the river bank and took in the scenery. Unfortunately, this rain cloud was moving our direction and the ride home got a little wet.

Swathing… swathing was yummy. Notice boot to my right… that means I was the one sitting on the tool box between the seat and the door…. but I had the Cheetos! Mmmm Mmmm… And the next field is mine!

Shopping… Tuesday evening we took Rain to my riding lesson. Unfortunately, with some movement again she was sore and limping. That evening I emailed a horse lady in Clive, Alberta. Recommended by a friend, Wednesday I got an email back explaining what was wrong. She needs another chiropractic visit, she would prefer a different bit, and of course she’d love an apple because she tries so hard for me. Thursday we jumped in the truck and went to town. Well, I bought her apples, muscle cream, a rubber curry, and I’m on a mission for a new bit!

The mission continues…I woke up Friday morning, looked out the window and said today is the day to take a road trip… so we did. On a saddle shopping mission. We went to Edmonton, stopped at Welsh’s Saddlery, had dinner and continued on to Irvine’s in Crossfield. Amazing Store (as shown above)! But still no saddle… so we got a hotel in Calgary.

Bingo… Saturday morning we stopped at Frontier Tack and Western Wear in Claresholm. Still nothing spectacular, so we made our way to K&K Livestock by Calgary. Bingo, and here it is. My dreamed up little saddle, and all the accessories. We topped it off with a party in Clive with Jessie and her family. Always makes for a great night.

Paynton…Every time I drive by this sign I tell myself to take a picture of it… Well, here’s my piece of history. It’ll be the cover of the Paynton history book…. the one that doesn’t exist yet.
