*Trigger warning*
My personal conversations with a moose,
the cows, a field and the garden.
I’ve always known where food comes from because I grew up on a farm that raised cows, grew grain, and had a garden, and a few of those years there was extra meat in the freezer from the deer or other animals that were harvested. And now as an adult we own a ranch of our own….
My life has led me down a very spiritual path and I now look at my food completely differently… but not in the way you’d expect.
Now I honour whole heartedly where it comes from.
My deep inquiries actually started in the field, not in the animal pen as you may have thought…
As I cut down the whole crop of wheat I pondered, as they waved back and forth in the wind… after planting, nurturing and caring for the fields of grain how or why we could just snipped off their tops and be ok with this.
This plant was living- it was a living being until I came along and killed it.
What for?
To eat
All to steal the fruit if it’s being and eat it selfishly.
So I could nourish myself, that plant(s) had to die…
We spent all year nourishing it just to kill it and eat it.
This sent pings to my heart.
That fall I had the same conversation with my garden.
As we ripped the carrots out of the ground that we so lovingly tilled the soil, planted the seed, nurtured the ground with water, pulled the weeds, replenished the land with fertilizer… and watched the seeds blossom and flourish.
And then we just ripped them out of the soil at their ripest hour.
So they could nourish our bodies as we cut them up and made them into soups and salads for our eating pleasure.
This got me thinking…
And then I had an experience I did not expect.
I went hunting…
Unknowingly, well … I knew it was hunting season and I knew the person I was with has a hunting licence and moose tag.
I didn’t know that the day that we were just out for a leisurely drive that we’d come across the moose that they were going to harvest.
Because it was the most magical thing.
We actually were not on the hunt, but the intention was set and if you ask, the universe will deliver.
As we sat in the pasture admiring the view and telling stories about the land… over the hill a moose would appear.
We did not chase or hunt down.
It came to us.
And in my fully open state I asked it, “are you the moose we were supposed to find”
The moose with a huge open heart fully knew and understood that this was his mission and purpose in life to grow this body into a beautiful specimen to be eaten and pass on its nourishment to the next soul.
And that experience was eye opening
(And the best tasting moose I’ve ever had)
So I came home.
After hearing all about the inhuman or unethical reasons not to eat meat, I asked my cows…. the ones we raise specifically to supply the meat food chain …
And they replied, “as long as you love us and treat us well while we are alive we fully give permission to utilize our bodies in the way of food or other products”
You see when something dies their soul leaves the material body.
We can’t kill a spirit.
We can’t kill a soul.
The material body is then left to decompose or be eaten- whether it was an animal or plant.
You in no way harmed a soul when it died.
You don’t have that power.
That soul transitions to a higher state and gets rebirthed.
It’s the natural cycle of life.
And we are either in alignment with it or not…
But first we need to understand this cycle and that we are not above it, we are part of it.
No matter if you are nourishing your body with vegetables, fruit, grains, meat, or dairy…. you are part of the natural cycle of life.
Did something have to die for you to put it in your mouth?
Absolutely, but that’s not a bad thing… it’s natural and it’s the cycle of life. ?
