I hope everyone had a great Canada Day and Independence Day weekend. And now the count down is on, ten more days until I start my Photo-a-Day blog. I’ll post them right here, and add a description of each photo and little blog of the week events. I’m excited to start looking for photo opportunities every day. I already do look for great photo shots, but this will challenge me to look further and go farther with my photography skills. Even the non-photo opportunities could turn out to be great photos.
I am well on my learning curve to better horsemanship. I am so excited about this. I have started fixing my old arena. OK, it’s not that old, but it’s a mess. I’m not going to do any extensive work to it, but I just want a usable area to ride and to let the kids ride this summer. Right about now I am making signs with the dressage letters on them so I have indicators as to where to go and where the center of the arena is. It’ll help direct the kids where to go…. “turn left at the K”…. and hopefully they know which direction left is.
I don’t have any formal riding lessons for a couple of weeks so I will ride here at home and work on the exercises we have been doing to try and improve the skills we have started. Any sort of practice will be good for both of us. I liked the exercise of trotting over the poles, and having to find the right rhythm. Just getting in and staying in a rhythm with my horse will help us look and feel more balanced. She’s very lazy, and really needs that encouragement. I’m hoping that when I get back into lessons I can for sure be able to take my level one test and I’m hoping be ready for level two as well. I better start studying that stable management and horsemanship theory!
I am still working on finding my perfect saddle. I think I will have to order one in and that will take a few months to get, so I’m thinking I won’t have a new one to ride in until next spring. But if it is perfect and comfortable, it’s worth the wait! Maybe I’ll practice more of my riding in this English saddle? That was a new experience, but not a bad one by any means. I’m thinking of trying more bareback riding. It’s been a long time since I have thought I was that talented!
So many great things going on….. and next HAYING season. Bring on the haybine!
